HISTORY
The first prototype of the Lambada flew in May 1996, powered by a Rotax 447 two-cylinder two-stroke engine. Although underpowered, the flying characteristics were proved to be more than adequate. The Lambada also underwent load testing at the Aeronautical Engineering faculty of Brno University in the Czech Republic, after which Urban Air began production. The Rotax 912 engine powered most of the early production models, but later the Jabiru 2200 four cylinder became an option. In 1999 the prototype Samba took to the air. This is a modification of the Lambada, using a shortened wing and fuselage. In South Africa, the Samba is used for glider towing. Over the years the Lambada and Samba have won awards at various exhibitions and World Microlight Championships. Then in 2004, the company’s latest creation took to the air, the Samba XXL, details of which are described elsewhere.
